Packing for a trip shouldn’t feel like a puzzle. The more we travel, the more we realize that less truly is more especially when every extra piece of clothing or heavy shoe adds a little more weight to carry, roll, or lift. Over the years, I’ve learned that traveling light doesn’t mean giving up style; it just means choosing pieces that work harder for you. Here’s a simple guide to packing smart, staying comfortable, and looking effortlessly put together on any trip.
If there’s one item I never travel without, it’s a scarf. Lightweight, beautiful, and incredibly practical, a scarf can transform an outfit in seconds. It can also double as a wrap on chilly flights, a cover-up for churches, a pillow on trains, or a pop of color in photos. Perfect for covering your shoulders when visiting religious churches and sacred sites in Europe
I usually bring two:
A neutral one that goes with everything
A colorful or patterned one that adds personality
Scarves take up almost no space and instantly make you look and feel polished—even after a long travel day.
Safety and convenience matter when you’re exploring a new city, walking cobblestone streets, or hopping on public transportation. A crossbody bag keeps your essentials close, your hands free, and your mind at ease. Look for one with a secure zipper, light padding for comfort, and enough room for what you truly need: phone, wallet, lip balm, tissues, and maybe a small hand sanitizer.
Travel tip: Neutral tones like black, tan, or taupe pair well with any outfit, and structured bags keep their shape beautifully.
Travel days mean steps, thousands of them. The right walking shoes can make all the difference between loving your day or spending it searching for a pharmacy. Lightweight, cushioned, and supportive shoes are key.
Before you even pack, check the bottoms of your shoes to make sure they aren’t worn down or scuffed. It’s surprisingly easy to toss in an older pair by mistake only to discover the tread is gone once you’re already on vacation. A quick inspection at home saves a lot of foot pain later.
My go-to brands for comfort and style are:
On Cloud – lightweight, supportive, great for all-day city walks
Adidas – versatile, stylish, and easy to pair with outfits
New Balance – increasingly one of the best options for long walking days
I usually bring one pair of white sneakers that go with dresses, jeans, and travel pants, and sometimes a slip-on or flat for evenings. And remember: never bring brand-new shoes on a brand-new trip unless you break them in first!
Happy feet = happy travel.
There’s a certain freedom that comes from packing light: moving quickly, feeling organized, and never dragging extra weight onto trains or up hotel stairs. When your suitcase holds only what you love and actually use, you start your trip feeling confident, calm, and ready for adventure.
Travel isn’t about having endless outfits it's about the moments, the views, the people you meet, and the memories you bring home. Pack lightly, dress simply, and let the world be your highlight.
